People often ask me if they should involve both spouses/partners in their organizations. Yes! Almost without exception, the best course of action is to involve both halves of a couple.
As always, when in doubt, put yourself in your donor’s shoes. Would you make a significant gift without talking with your spouse or partner? Not likely. We talk to our partners before deciding to do something big and meaningful. So why not involve both of them from the start?
If you don’t, chances are they’ll discuss your organization and their support for it without you and you won’t be there to walk them through any objections they might have. If you do, you’ll have a much better chance of igniting the passionate commitment of both and your gift will increase exponentially.
